“Home of the black-tailed Jackrabbit” by Pamela Hohensinn -
★ Runner-up!
“In this watercolor painting, I have chosen to feature the black-tailed Jackrabbit. He's a hare that feeds on shrubs and grasses and relies on speed and camouflage for defence. Amazing that he can reach a speed up to 40 mph! He and many other animal species live here at the beautiful San Francisco Peaks and their habitat is being threatened by a ski resort. Snowbowl wants to continue to deforest the land, which desecrates a sacred place for the Indigenous people, displaces the animals, pollutes water and destroys vegetation. To make awareness of this issue and support the efforts to conserve all the things mentioned above, is a step in the right direction.
The future destruction can never be undone so let's do our best to prevent it and give the land and animals a voice💗”
      "Harmony" by Charlize Branch -
★ 1st Prize Winner!

“We are not the only ones going through hard times so are our four sacred peaks. And they need us and in order to prevent further destruction we all young and old need to work together in harmony.”
“Abalone Shell Horses- Dook’o’oosłííd” by Andrea Lauren Sekayumtewa -
★ 2nd Prize Winner!
“The abalone shell horse represents the west cardinal direction “ÌIna”. Ìina to us Navajo people means life/living/doing. Abalone shell symbolizes our understanding of social unity. The mountain is a being, that like any person requires social interaction to retain connection. I painted the background yellow because I love the golden hour during the evening time. Our sacred mountain (San Francisco Peaks) Dook’o’oosłííd is also in the west direction. This sacred mountain is adorn with abalone shell so I wanted to paint a variety of colorful horses, if you ever look at abalone shell it has many colors. As the peaks experience desecration, climate change, and proposals for future expansion, actions are needed from us as a community to restore the imbalances the mountain ensures and also the imbalances we absorb. Let us be the balance & continue to remember these sacred teachings.”
“ Teokʷāitepētl (Sacred Peaks) Flagstaff, Arizona “ by Rosy Campanita -
“Never give up the fight for what is sacred. (Teokʷāitepētl is the Nahuatl word for Sacred Peaks)”
